At the Joan Muyskensweg, entrepreneurs, young and old, work with and for each other in inspiring spaces and dynamic environments. A hive of creativity and entrepreneurship is now also accessible to young Amsterdammers who want to develop themselves. On September 19, 2019, the Education and Skill Center of De Muys will open its doors for young Amsterdammers up to the age of 35 who want to get started with work and learning trajectories in hospitality and facility.
De Muys Education and Skill Center will offer bilingual learning paths every quarter from its opening. Participants receive practical skills in English or Dutch from certified teachers in a dynamic environment. Ben, one of the duo partners behind this initiative, states: “Stimulating entrepreneurial behavior of young people is in line with our just do it vision”. Bart adds: “De Muys is a hive for young talent, here they can work safely and confidently on their skills, and therefore also on their future”.
Barista, Facility or Hospitality training with progression options
De Muys Education Center offers three learning paths for young people aged 18 to 35: barista, facility and hospitality. During the barista training, participants are taken through the entire process from the origin of coffee beans, from roasting to brewing a good cup of coffee. Including a two-day HACCP course in which you learned how to deal with food and how to apply the mandatory Hygiene Code for the catering industry in practice.
The Facility program consists of vocational modules, electives, a Guidance module and an internship program (your workplace or an internship). With this training, the participant develops into a facility employee or manager. With a focus on building management and hospitality, students learn the entire process from contracts to execution.
Finally, in the Hospitality training, extensive attention is paid to hospitality in the broadest sense, communication, entrepreneurship and self-development & internships. This training takes place 60% in practice and has been set up in consultation with hotels and catering companies in Amsterdam East and experts from the field. As a result, it matches the needs of the industry and the latest trends.
Prior to the training, a short job interview takes place, in which young people with no work experience or no previous education are given priority. After successful completion of the practical exam and assessment, De Muys offers all graduates a place to work for three months. They are then referred to the surrounding hotels and catering companies with whom De Muys has concluded a pact to hire young people.
